I WANT TO TRADE

This fall under the Now I Heard It All Award. This comes from one of my favorite websites Comics Continuum. Check out this little bit of news:

 BARACK OBAMA TRADING CARDS

The Topps Company has announced it will release an exclusive series of collectible trading cards featuring President-Elect Barack Obama. The 90-card set will document, in colorful photos and fact-filled text, Obama's life story. The set will be available prior to Obama's inauguration in January. Each foil-wrapped pack will contain six and one sticker, at a suggested retail price of $1.99 per pack.

"The upcoming release of our tribute to Barack Obama carries on the company's proud tradition of documenting significant and newsworthy moments in time," said Topps CEO Scott Silverstein. " These cards will resonate with the millions of Americans whose passionate outpouring of support provided President-Elect Obama with one of the most memorable and historic victories ever. This educational, entertaining and emotional collection is destined to become an instant classic."

Plates?! Coins?!  Now Trading cards?!  Is it me, or is this so many levels of ridiculous? Aren't we taking this Obamaphoria a little too far?! Name one other President that had his own set, not just one, set of trading cards devoted to them? It's getting to the point that this Obamamania is getting too scary. Good God people! What will be next? Obama cereal? Obama video games where it shows how many unborn babies he can kill with the stroke of a pen. We've already had an Obama comic book, but they also did a McCain one. However,  they are now developing a Michelle Obama comic from Bluewater Comics now that he won the election. Check it out:

What is going on with people?!  OK it's historic, but let's think about this word "historic" with the root word, HISTORY.For the love of God, stop drinking the Kool-Aid! It's over. Let's move on.

As long as Topps and Bluewater feel compelled to "documenting significant and newsworthy moments in time," how about a comic book devoted to Sarah Palin, one of the first few women Vice Presidential candidates, or set of cards devoted to the entire 2008 election. Wasn't that historic in itself? Personally, I would love to see Topps doing something more commendable like trading cards featuring members of our troops fighting for our freedom with the proceeds going to the Wounded Warrior program or some other Veterans organizations. Good Lord! But as long as we are making these trading cards, I'll trade mine for Sarah Palin.
